Follow These Pro Guidelines In Caring For A Newly Installed Windshield

When you buy a car, you expect it will serve you for many years before you have to replace it. However, how you care for it determines whether it serves you for long or not. Damaged windshields are among the common problems that almost every vehicle owner handles. Replacing a damaged windshield is one of the best ways to maximize your safety on the road. Here are some guidelines to follow when caring for the newly installed auto glass

Do Not Rush to Drive

One of the mistakes people make when dealing with replacement windshields is that they do not give them time to cure before getting back on the road. The auto glass technician attaches the glass to the vehicle frame using adhesive. If you start moving the vehicle before the setting process is complete, the adhesive will fail, and the glass will not cure as it should. Look for an alternative way to get to your commitments for the first few hours following the auto glass replacement.

Clear Out the Vehicle Interior

The way you care for the vehicle after leaving the auto shop will determine whether the auto glass cures well or disintegrates. It is best to clean up clutter from inside the car. You do not want anything to push against the adhesive when it is still setting. Therefore, do not place any items on the external or internal surface of the auto glass. Also, keep the dashboard free from personal items. Finally, do not use sunshade on the inside of your windshield for the first few days to allow for curing.

Leave Your Auto Window Slightly Open

One of the factors that can interfere with the speed and quality of the new windshield installation is the air pressure inside the vehicle. The adhesive gets compromised if your car experiences undue pressure. The stress might damage the glue and create a leak. You should leave one of the other windows rolled down an inch or so as it helps balance the pressure inside the vehicle.

Do Not Power Wash Your Car

It is wise to avoid the car wash for a number of days after you've installed the auto glass. The pressure of the water and scrubbing from the tools is enough to weaken the adhesive, leading to the failure of the entire windshield installation. Instead of making such a mistake, have the car gently cleaned at home or let it rest until the glass has set.

You should constantly communicate with the auto mechanic about the state of your vehicle after installing a new windshield. They will ensure the curing process runs smoothly and you get an excellent replacement for the glass.

About Me

Glass: The Clear and Hardy Choice Did you know that researchers have found evidence of glass blowing from as early as 3,600 BC in Mesopotamia? The ancient Egyptians were also pretty prolific glass blowers. Over the years, glass making has become its own industry, and the industry has moved towards making structural elements, like windows, mirrors, and railings. That's not to say there is not also a market for glass dishes, decor, and jewelry. These products also attract buyers. We have not been around since ancient times, and we are not glass makers. However, we do find the topic of glass intriguing, and we've published articles for others who share our interests.
